Hokkaido is the most northerly island of Japan. Renowned for its natural beauty, Hokkaido turns into a motorcycle-touring Mecca in the warmer months from May to September. Other cities worthy of a visit include Otaru, for its charm and great seafood and Hakodate, for its fantastic night views, streetcars and historic sites. In all, Hokkaido has more than 1200 festivals throughout the year, so you won't have any trouble soaking up the atmosphere.
